(New York-AP) -- The woman who united divorced wives across the
country by writing "The First Wives Club," has died.
Olivia Goldsmith did not survive complications that arose during
plastic surgery. Her agent says she suffered a heart attack while
undergoing a procedure to tighten the area around her chin.
Goldsmith's book -- "The First Wives Club" -- sold (m) millions of
copies and became a hit movie in 1996. The novel spun the tale of
three women who join together to take revenge upon their ex-husbands.
Notably, one of her characters was addicted to plastic surgery.
Goldsmith went on to publish four additional novels -- and two more
are being readied for print.
Goldsmith was 54.
